In my opinion, some people want get to into design through architecture, many students will learn the profession in the hopes of making something for their own, like a house entirely designed by them. Most of them end up in office jobs doing mundane tasks. Even if they land in higher positions where they design (larger) projects, constraints will hold them back. Furniture has less than half of these constraints, do whatever you want as long as its physically possible.
